| In the early days of operation, IEI was was one of the few places that a TV repairman could go to buy tubes, resistors, transistors and all of those specialized tools it took to test , take out and put them back in. Sure, there was Gem Electronics, Layafayette Radio and later on Radio Shack, but none of them could even come close to the huge supply that was in stock at IEI. Test equipment such as multimeters, oscilloscopes and power supplies, soldering and desoldering stations and technician's tools. Hundreds of thousands of resistors, capacitors, transistors, tubes, picture tubes and all the other little parts that go along with them sold daily. Even though they were things that the repair techician understood, if the average consumer were to come in with a part they were attempting to replace and may have not been sure if they were on the right track, those that were behind the counter were willing to help them with their home repair. Sometimes 15 minutes would be spent helping the customer to figure out the value of their burnt ten cent resistor. The expertise that IEI still exercises in dealing with parts helps them in the BIG PICTURE, to understand the subtleties of those things that make up the finished product. Like in any industry, tools are highly specialized, and IEI carries a full line of tools that are geared to the electronic technician. If you're doing electronic repairs, audio or video installations, you'll find that crimper for RG6 coax or for your cat 5 cable is in stock...and in 2 or 3 versions.  |
